When Oklahoma joined the
National Main Street Program, Duncan was the first town to request designation as a Main Street community. At that time the downtown core area occupancy rate was 55% and the county's major employer had terminated 2,500 jobs. Almost 80% of the commercial downtown buildings were absentee owned.
Today, eighty-two major facade renovations have been completed, by local contractors and craftsmen returning money to Duncan's economy and often providing additional jobs.
